Characters |
Crow Indians, Commander, Troops, Indian Braves |
|
Main points of the story |
The story of Yellowstone Tragedy" depicts the fleeing of Crow Indians from soldiers in Yellowstone Park. The Indians were very fond of these mountains and considered them sacred. Some chose to die by jumping into the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone rather than be captured alive. This group constructed a raft and once it was completed, they could escape the soldiers by pushing it down into the river. When this raft slid into the water, it went at full speed toward Yellowstone Falls. These Indians sang a dirge for themselves in open defiance. The soldiers looked on helplessly as their raft turned over at the precipice. The brave men decided to end their lives in that abyss beneath instead of being taken far away to jailhouse thereby bringing closure to their battle with honor. |
